Understanding the underlying disease mechanisms and cellular crosstalk in liver diseases
To design disease-regressing strategies, it is important to understanding the underlying disease mechanisms and the cellular crosstalk and (signaling) pathways that are involved in physiological and pathological cellular behaviour. We have contributed towards unravelling the underlying mechanisms of an active crosstalk between HSCs-macrophages, HSCs-endothelial cells, and HSCs-macrophages-endothelial cells in liver diseases. Using specific inhibitors, we have also identified novel therapeutic targets and signaling pathways (NOTCH, WNT, JAK/STAT, ATX, SYK, SRC) in liver diseases. This knowledge heralds an era of sustained focus on translating the biology into meaningful improvements towards the treatment of liver diseases.
