Daphne van der Heide started in September 2015 with her Bachelor Biomedical Engineering at the University of Twente. During her Bachelor she did a minor in teaching chemistry and she did her bachelor thesis at the BIOS/Lab on a chip group about ‘Development of a tumor on-a-chip model to study key factors in metastasis’. Daphne graduated in July 2018 of her Bachelor Biomedical Engineering and teachers degree in chemistry. In September 2018 Daphne started her Master Biomedical Engineering with the Bioengineering Technologies track at the University of Twente. In August 2019 Daphne did a internship for four months at the AO Research Institute (ARI) in Davos, Switzerland about 'Assessing the immunomodulatory effect of GelMA with aligned and non-aligned iron oxide nanoparticles on macrophages'. Currently, Daphne is finalizing her Master with performing her Master thesis in the Translational Liver Research group about 'Modeling zonal and progressive liver fibrosis'.
Daphne is part of the ‘Human disease mimic platforms for disease modelling and drug discovery’ research topic within the Translational Liver Research group. She is working on the development of an in vitro model modeling zonal and progressive liver fibrosis using an anisotropic hybrid hydrogel. This model will recapitulate the zonal and progressive liver fibrosis, which will enable high-throughput drug screening and fasten drug discovery for the treatment of fibrotic diseases.
